Our first years of Elementary School (from 6 to 11 years old) have as its goals forming children that are capable of listening, being heard and understood, and speaking in a variety of situations. Integration School wants to form an autonomous and self-reliant individual, which goes after the answers for their own needs. A dedicated person on the search for knowledge, comprehension, history… who is engaged to their own future!
We respect our conception of childhood, and during the years kids spend at Integration School, we are proud to always preserve their individualities and specific characteristics, and to do so we keep our classes with a well-planned and dynamic routine, where all learning areas are taken seriously but not forgetting the playful aspects from Kindergarten School that keep kids engaged and eager to learn, offering and exchanging experiences throughout the day.
From our 1st Grade in Elementary School, the school time is increased. Students must be in the school from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm, studying the Brazilian Curriculum in the morning and the English one during the afternoon.
Since we start our Portuguese Literacy process during Early Years/ Kindergarten, children enrolled at Integration School are guided toward fluency in both languages. Children are prepared to be reading and writing in Portuguese at 6 years of age. At Year 2, our students will be able to develop their reading and writing ability to English as a second language, and by the end of 4th Grade they will have mastered the listening, speaking, reading and writing skills in both languages.
By the 2nd Grade we also begin Spanish classes, bringing in a third language to their school life. Throughout the first years of Elementary School, Integration School students can apply to three different YLE – Young Learners English Exams from Cambridge, a very well-known school in England. These exams are the Starters, Movers and Flyers Exams. On top of that we offer our 4th and 5th Grade students the amazing experience of being abroad in an exchange cultural summer program where the kids spend 15 days living an American routine during summer, in a Baltimore-Maryland school at the US.
